V2V Demo for TransSec @ the mid-term review

In July 2019 the TransSec consortium held its med term with with EU Commission and the GSA. As part of this review WP6 presented one of its demonstrators to the project officer, reviewers and of course all other interested parties. The V2V presentation in Daimler premises demonstrates the vehicle to vehicle communications for the TransSec risk message to the surrounding environment. This demonstrator provides the means for the host vehicle to determine if it is being used incorrectly (security threat) and communicate the risk of an event occurring based on this vehicles behavior to the surrounding vehicles.
As can be seen from Figure 1 below there are only two vehicles commissioned with the TransSec platform (as can be seen be the two icons on the map). Both vehicles are communicating with each other via CAM messaging and some metrics regarding the other TransSec enabled vehicles are also displayed on the TransSec dashboard.
Figure 2 displays the second vehicle (orange icon on right side) generating the TransSec risk message (indicated by the red icon). The risk messages are being transmitted by the DENM messaging protocol to the surrounding environment. The metrics are then updated within the dashboard to highlight the detected risk vehicle, its location overlaid on the map along with the proximity of our vehicle to the risk origin vehicle.
Clicking on the Risk icon provides more information about the generated risk event including our location in regards to risk level the the risk originating vehicle as shown in Figure 3.
It is possible to zoom out of the map and get a clearer picture of the various risk zones associated with the dissemination of the TransSec risk message as displayed in Figure 4. There are referred to the Risk Zones.
When a TransSec risk information window is open (clicking on the red icon) the risk danger zones are displayed as circles originating from the origin of the DENM messages.

RiskLevel Range
Critical 0 – 100m
High 100 – 200m
Moderate 200 – 300m
Low 300 – 500m

Overall the demonstration was well received and provided the consortium with a good level of detail regarding the work that had been carried out for the first year of the project within work package 6: V2X Communications.
